If you, as a trainee, receive a request to provide a statement or report for the coroner’s court, please do not do so without discussing this with a consultant first. The default position is that it is a consultant responsibility to provide such reports, as well as verbal evidence for inquests, when required.
In some circumstances it may be necessary for a trainee to provide such a statement and possibly attend an inquest. You will receive support from the consultant body and the Trust Legal Department if this is the case.
